The engines on UP train MSSPR couple back onto the train after having dropped a third (former SP) unit on the adjacent track. Crew will tie down the train here and shuttle back to the engine ramp on the former SP unit.
UP's SD70ACe fleet is equipped with autostart systems, which allow the engine to turn itself on or off, according to specific parameters, as a fuel-saving measure. The units utilize an air starter to crank the engine.
