This is the same train as in the previous photo. It slowed to a stop east of the road crossing in Meriden due to traffic congestion ahead in and around Mendota. At this point, there was a grain train at the big elevator just east of Mendota (and whose power was sitting on number 2 main); another empty coal train ahead on this (number 1 main) track in Mendota; and another westbound freight west of town. To top it off, there was signal trouble gumming up the works -- that's why there was gridlock. This photo was taken with a long lens across a field from the shoulder of US 34.
