Odd visitor: BNSF train UMCIDUL, westbound empty hoppers from McCook, Illinois to Duluth, travel westward on the former Santa Fe at speed. This train would ordinarily take the Aurora Subdivision from Chicago to Savanna and west, a direct routing; today's train is taking the former Santa Fe to Galesburg, then will take the Barstow Subdivision north toward Savanna, a more circuitous routing. The Santa Fe has the advantage of being two main tracks, which allow for greater fluidity than the single-track Aurora Sub. The SD70MAC leader is the only EMD product we saw on BNSF all day.
