Norfolk Southern's southbound 738 train - a pair of BNSF GEs on the front, 136 RWSX loads of coal, and another pair of BNSF GEs on the rear - disturb the tranquility of downtown Locust Grove, Georgia. The train is bound for Plant Scherer, near Juliette, about 35 miles from here. That power plant is named for Robert W. Scherer, former chairman of Georgia Power, and in fact the bottom-dump hoppers are named for him, too. The plant is one of the largest electricity generators in the country - and hungry, generally receiving two or more trainloads of coal per day.
