The Ozaukee County Historical Society has completed its campaign to repair and restore its historic Milwaukee Road depot. The depot, which originally served Cedarburg, Wisconsin, was built in July, 1907. As a hub for the community, it saw regular, daily use until cessation of passenger service on the Superior Subdivision in 1950. MILW used the building for freight & express, and for company (MOW) purposes, approximately until the Milwaukee Road bankruptcy. On September 30, 1982, the Milwaukee, Chicago, St. Paul & Pacific Railroad Company agreed to sell the historic building to the Ozaukee County Historical Society for $1.00, on the condition that the building be removed from railroad property. True to its word, on January 18, 1983, OCHS moved the depot to its present location, Ozaukee County Pioneer Village, in the nearby town of Saukville, Wisconsin. The depot is now fully restored. Next up: attention will be paid to the MILW caboose out front.
